Exhibition Acquisitions

Last night, the exhibition Acquisitions was formally opened at the Gallery of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro. The exhibition showcases recently purchased and donated artworks that have become part of the museum’s collection. Curators Nikolina Zuber and Biljana Keković are the authors of the exhibition.

At the opening, it was emphasized that contemporary art today encompasses a wide range of expressions – from classical painting to digital installations and performances – creating space for new interpretations and active audience engagement. Through a selection of works created from the 1970s to the present, Acquisitions offers insight into the diversity of contemporary approaches and the museum’s role in actively shaping and redefining its collection.

Curator Nikolina Zuber highlighted that the acquisition process involves careful identification, evaluation, and alignment of artworks with the museum’s mission, in collaboration with artists, curators, and other cultural actors.

“In this way, the Museum of Contemporary Art continuously enriches its collection and participates in a dialogue between the past, present, and future,” said Zuber.

Biljana Keković noted that Acquisitions is the second exhibition dedicated to presenting new works from the MSUCG collection, confirming the continuity of a carefully guided process of selection and affirmation of contemporary art as a vital part of our society’s cultural identity.

“In times of global challenges, these works call for empathy, solidarity, and humanism – values that are more necessary today than ever before,” said Keković.

The exhibition brings together artists from Montenegro, the region, and the world, whose works reflect different approaches to thinking about social relations and cultural change through art as a space of freedom, experimentation, and critical thought.

The exhibition features works by the following artists: Aleksandar Đuravčević, Laibach, Šejla Kamerić, Lazar Pejović, Srđa Dragović, Ivana Radovanović, Mijo Mijušković, Vukosav Bojović, Risto Radmilović, Nikola Marković, Stanko Zečević, Naod Zorić, Jože Tišnikar, Vladimir Đuranović, Nikola Božović, Radomir Damjanović Damjan, Sam Durant, Dragoljub Raša Todosijević, Braco Dimitrijević, Branko Filipović Filo, Ivan Grubanov, and Radovan Grujić.

The Acquisitions exhibition will remain open to the public until September 1 at the MCAM Gallery.
