Ivan Pejović

The ceremonial opening of the exhibition “Paintings” by artist Ivan Pejović will take place on Tuesday, October 7 at 7 PM at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro, in the space of The House of The King’s Guard. The exhibition is curated by Milica Bezmarević.

“In the landscapes of Ivan Pejović, nature does not appear as a faithful copy of the external world, but rather as a rhythm of colors, brushstrokes, and freely shaped chromatic masses. These are not merely frames through which the landscape is observed, but surfaces upon which the landscape is rebuilt, born, and reconstructed,” said Bezmarević.

She also adds that the landscape here manifests as a continuous movement, a composition of rhythm and contrast, whereby the artist not only shapes natural forms but also structures their inner pulse, enabling the viewer to perceive and critically reinterpret it.

“In that sense, Pejović’s works function as a dynamic medium where processes of creation, aesthetic sensitivity, and active viewer participation intertwine — thus extending the narrative of the landscape beyond mere visual representation and transforming it into a space of intersubjective experience,” Bezmarević concludes in the catalogue text accompanying the exhibition.

Ivan Pejović was born in 1978 in Nikšić. He graduated and earned his master’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje, Department of Painting. Throughout his career, he has held numerous solo exhibitions and participated in many group shows both in the country and abroad. He is the recipient of the Annual Student Award for Painting (2005) and the prestigious Grand Prix of the Montenegrin Art Salon (2011).
