MCAM Presents Acquired Works – Opening of the Exhibition “Acquisitions” on Tuesday at the MCAM Gallery
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Acquisitions, which will take place on Tuesday, July 8 at 8 PM at the MCAM Gallery. The exhibition is curated by Nikolina Zuber and Biljana Keković.
The exhibition will feature works by both Montenegrin and international contemporary artists that have recently been acquired and incorporated into the museum’s collection.
These works were created in diverse temporal and production contexts – ranging from pieces dating back to the 1970s to recent works from 2024 – collectively bearing witness to the richness and diversity of contemporary artistic expression. The exhibited pieces span a wide range of media: video, photography, sculpture, painting, drawing, installation, and printmaking.
This exhibition represents the result of one of the Museum’s strategic directions – the continuous enrichment of its collection through acquisitions, which this year were made based on expert recommendations from the director and curators. In doing so, MCAM actively shapes its collection as a dynamic, representative, and living organism that not only preserves key examples of contemporary art production but also reflects shifts in the social, political, and cultural landscape of the present age.
Acquisitions are not merely an administrative process; they are a fundamental expression of a museum institution’s responsibility toward contemporary artists and the emerging cultural heritage. Through carefully selected purchases, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro affirms the role of art in society, supports creators, and contributes to the formation of an archive that will bear lasting witness to the aesthetic, conceptual, and technological changes of our time.
With its acquisition policy, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro aims to move beyond the confines of purely local activity and, in line with contemporary museological practices, to build a collection that engages with global currents in contemporary art. By including relevant regional and international artists, the Museum strategically positions itself as an institution that not only observes and supports artistic trends in Montenegro but also actively participates in international cultural dialogue, building a collection that is both recognizable and significant on the broader artistic map.
The exhibition will feature works by the following artists: Aleksandar Đuravčević, Laibach, Šejla Kamerić, Lazar Pejović, Srđa Dragović, Ivana Radovanović, Mijo Mijušković, Vukosav Bojović, Risto Radmilović, Nikola Marković, Stanko Zečević, Naod Zorić, Jože Tišnikar, Vladimir Đuranović, Nikola Božović, Radomir Damjanović Damjan, Sam Durant, Dragoljub Raša Todosijević, Braco Dimitrijević, Branko Filipović Filo, Ivan Grubanov, and Radovan Grujić.
The exhibition will remain on view until August 29.
