Exhibition: Acquisitions
Gallery: Gallery of MCAM, The House of the King’s Guard
Duration:: December 12, 2023. – February 2, 2024.
Last night, the exhibition “Acquisitions” was opened at the MCAM Gallery and The House of the King’s Guard, featuring works by 14 artists whose works were purchased by the Museum through a Public Call for the acquisition of museum material.
As the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro, through its defined acquisition strategy, supports innovative artistic movements, this exhibition showcases works executed in various media – from painting and sculpture to video works, digital pieces, and photography, said exhibition curator Natalija Đuranović in her address.
“It is about collecting works and updating the MCAM as a space with autonomy, where categories of social engagement and responsibility are examined, re-read, and problematized. The exhibition includes a wide range of works and messages that define contemporary art and the latest trends in all their particularities. The exhibited works are different in context and visual expression, but the connection between them lies in the experience of contemporary thinking – memory,” she said.
Exhibition curator Teodora Nikčević, in her address, said that the competition provided a unique opportunity to establish a connection between the Museum and artists working with new media – both those already established and internationally recognized, as well as young artists who are already achieving significant results.
By connecting the past and the future with the Collection of New Media, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro not only strengthens the scientific significance of this artistic form but also actively supports the development and preservation of new media art. This step is not only a cultural contribution but also a strategy that enhances social recognition and appreciation of one of the most significant art forms of the 21st century, Nikčević emphasized.
The exhibition features works by Šejla Kamerić, Lenka Đorojević, Siniša Radulović, Adrijana Gvozdenović and Goda Palekaite, Irena Lagator Pejović, Darja Bajagić, Aleksandar Vukotić, Ivica Aranđus, Vlatka Vujošević, Joveta Ljumović, Darko Vučković, Velibor Pavićević, Adin Rastoder, and Jelena Pavićević Marković.
The exhibition is set up in two exhibition spaces of MCAM – in the MCAM Gallery and The House of the King’s Guard , and it is open to the public until February 2, 2024.
