The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro (MCAM) will present the catalogue accompanying the second edition of the major research and exhibition project “Montenegro Today” on Friday, 18 September, at 1:00 PM, in Kruševac Park.
The presentation will feature Maša Vlaović, project coordinator, curators Natalija Đuranović, Biljana Keković, Natalija Vujošević and Vuk Vuković, as well as the publication’s designer, Denis Ćupić. The discussion will introduce the concept and content of the publication, the curatorial research behind this year’s edition, and the significance of the catalogue in documenting Montenegro’s contemporary art scene.
The publication serves as a lasting record of the second edition of “Montenegro Today”, which this year, marking the 20th anniversary of the restoration of Montenegro’s independence, brought together 94 artists across four thematic sections presented at Petrović Castle, Perjanički Dom, the MCAM Gallery and the ULUCG Art Pavilion.
The catalogue features curatorial texts offering a more detailed insight into the concepts behind the exhibitions “Identity,” “Living Images,” “Dynamic Points and Invisible Lines,” and “Open Field / Artistic Practices and Ideas of Nature,” while also presenting the artists featured in each of the four exhibition sections. In this way, the publication is not only a record of the exhibitions, but also an important part of a multi-year research process dedicated to mapping, monitoring and presenting contemporary artistic production in Montenegro.
The introductory text is authored by Maša Vlaović and Marina Čelebić, while Maša Vlaović and Maja Dedić are the coordinators of the “Montenegro Today” project.
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro launched “Montenegro Today” in 2023 as a multi-year research and exhibition platform dedicated to mapping, documenting and presenting Montenegro’s contemporary art scene. Through curatorial research and thematic exhibitions, the project examines diverse artistic practices, their connections, parallels and specificities, encompassing artists working in Montenegro as well as artists of Montenegrin origin who live and work abroad.
The catalogue presentation brings this year’s exhibition cycle of “Montenegro Today” to a close, while its research process continues through further documentation, new curatorial perspectives and future presentations of contemporary Montenegrin art.
