Exhibition ``Revived Records`` by Mirsad Begić Opened at MCAM

Exhibition: Mirsad Begić

Gallery: Gallery of MCAM
Duration:: May 15. – July 01. 2025.

Last night, the exhibition Revived Records by renowned artist Mirsad Begić was formally opened at the Gallery of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro.

Speakers at the opening included the exhibition curator Milena Durutović, artist Mirsad Begić, and Borut Valenčič, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Montenegro, who officially opened the exhibition.

Curator Milena Durutović emphasized that the exhibition is a significant contribution not only to the affirmation of Begić’s artistic work but also to the strategic positioning of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro as an institution that engages with contemporary art in its conceptual, material, and social dimensions.

“We believe this exhibition will inspire new interpretations of the relationship between image and thought, between space and gaze, between presence and meaning. In a time of excessive production of visual information, the art of Mirsad Begić acts as a necessary corrective—not in opposition to contemporaneity, but as its intellectual counterpoint,” said Durutović.

Adding special significance to the event is the fact that the artist donated a major piece from the exhibited series—Guarding the Dream, which is displayed at the very entrance to the gallery space. Durutović expressed her gratitude and emphasized that the artwork will be carefully preserved in the MSUCG collection.

Artist Mirsad Begić also addressed the audience, noting that he would let his works speak on his behalf that evening. With a sense of humility and gratitude, he said it was a great honor to have the opportunity to present his works to the public in Montenegro, a country with which he shares longstanding professional and personal ties. He extended special thanks to the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro and its partner, Novak Gallery from Ljubljana, for making the exhibition possible.

Borut Valenčič, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of such cultural initiatives that not only promote art and artists but also strengthen bilateral relations.

As he pointed out, the presence and support of diplomatic representatives are a clear indication that the work of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro is recognized as valuable and relevant in an international context. According to him, such joint projects further strengthen cultural ties between Montenegro and Slovenia, building bridges of cooperation and understanding through art.

The Revived Records exhibition was organized in collaboration with Novak Gallery from Ljubljana and will remain open to the public until July 01, 2025.
