As part of the exhibition MONTENEGRO TODAY (OPEN FIELD / ARTISTIC PRACTICES), curated by Anita Ćulafić, Maja Dedić and Natalija Vujošević, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro (MCAM) is organizing the PRA – WOOL workshop, which will take place on Friday, 4 September, starting at 10:00 AM.

The workshop will be led by Jelena Đukanović, MA, from the Wool Institute of Montenegro and the Faculty of Design and Multimedia at UDG, who is also one of the participating artists in the MONTENEGRO TODAY project.

The workshop is dedicated to wet felting, one of the oldest textile-making techniques, with origins dating back to prehistoric times. Through hands-on work, participants will have the opportunity to explore the properties of wool, the process of shaping it, and the way in which felt is created.

Thanks to the specific morphological structure of wool fibres, when exposed to moisture and an alkaline environment, as well as pressure and friction, the fibres interlock to form a strong, inseparable structure known as felt.

By exploring this traditional technique, the workshop offers participants an opportunity to engage directly with wool as a natural material and discover its characteristics and possibilities for use and shaping within a contemporary context.
