Archives, Sketches and Connections ~ Laboratory of the Non-Aligned Countries Art Collection
MCAM announces the ceremonial opening of the exhibition Archives, Sketches and Connections ~ Laboratory of the Non-Aligned Countries Art Collection, which will take place on Thursday, January 15, at 7:00 PM at the MSUCG Gallery.
The exhibition Archives, Sketches and Connections ~ Laboratory of the Non-Aligned Countries Art Collection presents an overview of a curatorial-research project conceived and implemented by Anita Ćulafić, Marina Čelebić, Nada Baković, and Natalija Vujošević. Initiated in the autumn of 2021, the project focuses on researching and reactivating the legacy of the Gallery of Art of the Non-Aligned Countries (Titograd 1981 – Podgorica 1995). Over four years of work, a research program was launched, a significant number of international collaborations were established, and numerous exhibition and educational projects were realized. Through dialogue with artists, new productions were developed based on research of the Gallery’s archive, as well as a continuity of donations that helped build the collection of the former Gallery of Art of the Non-Aligned Countries “Josip Broz Tito.” At the initiative of the members of the Laboratory, the process of proclaiming the Collection of Art of the Non-Aligned Countries as movable cultural property of national importance was also initiated.
The exhibition presents new productions and donations acquired through project collaborations, shown in dialogue with works from the Collection of Art of the Non-Aligned Countries, as well as archival materials and rituals that connect collective work, comradeship, and solidarity.
The exhibition features works by the following artists: Ana Hoffner ex Prvulović, Austria; Unknown Author, Iraq; Unknown Author, Palestine; Unknown Author, Colombia; Unknown Author, Nigeria; Đorđe Balmazović, Serbia; Irena Lagator Pejović, Montenegro; Jasmina Cibic, Slovenia / UK; Kareem Dabbah, Palestine; Luka Bekavac, Croatia; Omar Carreno, Venezuela; Oswaldo Vigas, Venezuela; Rene Portocarrero, Cuba; S. Nandagopal, India; Siniša Ilić, Serbia; Ted Carrasco, Bolivia; Vitorino Antoni Madonga, Tanzania; Zuzana Chalupova, Yugoslavia.
As part of the exhibition program, on Tuesday, January 20, 2025, the audience will have the opportunity to attend the lecture Yugoslavia and the Formation of the Non-Aligned Movement by Luka Savčić (research associate at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade), as well as the promotion of the publication Archives, Sketches and Connections, accompanied by a conversation on collaboration between the project members Marina Čelebić, Anita Ćulafić, Nada Baković, and Natalija Vujošević, with guest Bojana Piškur, curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Metelkova, Ljubljana.
