Exhibition “Montenegro Today I – Challenges and Perspectives” Opens at the Novak Gallery in Ljubljana
Last night, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro officially opened its exhibition Montenegro Today I – Challenges and Perspectives at the Novak Gallery in Ljubljana. The audience in Ljubljana now has the opportunity to explore selected perspectives of the contemporary Montenegrin art scene through the works of sixteen artists of different generations and expressions, chosen by the curatorial team of Maša Vlaović, M.A., and Maja Dedić.
The opening featured remarks by Dr. Vladislav Šćepanović, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro, and exhibition curator Maša Vlaović, M.A., while the exhibition was formally inaugurated by Vojislav Kovač, Honorary Consul of Montenegro in the Republic of Slovenia.
Dr. Vladislav Šćepanović emphasized:
“This evening testifies to the success of cultural exchange—the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro is simultaneously opening two exhibitions in Ljubljana, which is both an achievement and a clear sign that cooperation between our institutions is growing in intensity and quality year after year. I am convinced that such encounters strengthen professional ties and create space for new joint projects.”
Honorary Consul Vojislav Kovač stated:
“I am delighted that Ljubljana is hosting this significant presentation of Montenegrin artists. I am confident that projects like this will become increasingly frequent, as culture naturally connects our countries and opens doors for long-term cooperation, new ideas, and joint initiatives.”
Curator Maša Vlaović added:
“The exhibition Montenegro Today I – Challenges and Perspectives offers an exceptional opportunity to present one possible view of current Montenegrin artistic production at a time when artists defy norms and redefine the meaning of art. It is the result of collaboration between the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro and the Novak Gallery in Ljubljana, marking the beginning of interaction and exchange of ideas between Montenegrin and Slovenian artists.”
She further highlighted:
“In this sense, the exhibition represents a transcultural dialogue—a cultural axis that symbolically connects two artistic environments and opens space for long-term institutional and creative cooperation, while the contemporary Montenegrin scene continues to develop as an open, dynamic space where diverse poetics, media, and generations coexist.”
The exhibition features works by Nikola Balević, Vladimir Dado Đuranović, Milena Mijović Durutović, Arijana Kadić, Biljana Keković, Ivanka Vana Prelević, Ratko Odalović, Tomo Pavićević, Adin Rastoder, Nenad Šoškić, Maja Šofranac, Saša Stanišić, Aleksandar Saša Vukotić, Milena Jovicević, Naod Zorić, and Nikolina Zuber.
Montenegro Today I – Challenges and Perspectives will remain on view at the Novak Gallery until October 20.
