We are pleased to announce the upcoming MSUCG exhibition – PiNK by Slovenian artist Maja Smrekar, opening on Wednesday, October 22, at 7 PM at the MSUCG Gallery (Njegoševa 2).
PiNK is a poetic meditation on futures after ecological collapse — on new forms of solidarity and on life emerging from the mud.
The project grew out of research on the Ulcinj Saltworks ecosystem, conducted by the artist during her residency in 2024. The exhibition PiNK reflects on the coexistence of natural and post-industrial landscapes through the lens of the Greater Flamingos inhabiting the abandoned saltworks.
Smrekar builds a narrative of possible futures through the story of the Greater (pink) flamingo, a creature that creates favorable conditions for a rich biotope in the Ulcinj Saltworks — as a symbol of resilience and transformation, a being that filters, renews, and gives life from the mud. It becomes a starting point for a broader reflection on landscapes — not only those we inhabit, but those that also inhabit us.
Maja Smrekar is a Slovenian artist whose work bridges biology, technology, and performance. Her interdisciplinary practice explores the relationships between humans and other species, raising questions of empathy, identity, and the sustainability of life. She is the recipient of numerous international awards, including the Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica, and her work has been exhibited across leading European and global art scenes.
The exhibition is curated by Natalija Vujošević.
