The project “Out of the Blue, I’m Swept Away” by artist Siniša Radulović and curator Dr. Svetlana Racanović will represent Montenegro at the 61st Venice Biennale.
After a detailed review of fourteen proposals submitted in response to the Public Call for Montenegro’s participation in the 61st Venice Biennale, the expert jury decided that the project Out of the Blue, I ‘m Swept Away (Nesputan, ja lebdim) by artist Siniša Radulović, in collaboration with curator Dr. Svetlana Racanović, will represent our country at the world’s most prestigious international contemporary art exhibition.
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro serves as the executive producer and organizer of the participation, with Dr. Vladislav Šćepanović, the Museum’s director, acting as the Pavilion Commissioner.
The jury—composed of Hélène Audiffren (Director of the Carré d’Art Museum of Contemporary Art, Nîmes, France), Prof. Miroslav Balka (visual artist, Poland), Gunnar B. Kvaran (curator, Iceland), Ana Ivanović (art historian and curator, Montenegro), and Odile Decq (architect, France)—conducted a two-stage evaluation process, narrowing the field to six finalists before holding final interviews with the selected authors.
In explaining its decision, the jury stated:
“The selected project stands out for its clearly articulated concept, strong visual and conceptual communication, and a high level of professional execution and feasibility. It is a multi-media spatial installation that interweaves sculpture, video, and sound in exploring personal and collective experience, social dynamics, and the realm of imagination.”
The work unfolds through three intertwined elements: a floor construction based on the artist’s personal living space, monumental video projections, and an enveloping soundscape. An intimate reflection—transforming a private space into a modular structure with miniature figures—gradually evolves into a meditation on the collective, raising questions of coexistence and belonging. The video projections suggest human presence and connection, while the soundscape—merging wind currents with the depths of the ocean—creates an immersive, introspective atmosphere.
Out of the Blue, I ‘m Swept Away / Nesputan, ja lebdim invites the audience to step into a space where the private meets the public, where absence opens a realm of new possibilities—engaging all the senses and encouraging contemplation of presence, vulnerability, and new beginnings.
