“Archives, Sketches, and Connections” – Public Program, Lecture, and Presentation
Join us on Tuesday, January 20, at 6 p.m. at the MCAM Gallery, for a program held as part of the exhibition Archives, Sketches, and Connections ~ The Non-Aligned Art Collection Laboratory.
The program includes the lecture Yugoslavia and the Formation of the Non-Aligned Movement by researcher and historian Luka Savčić, as well as a discussion on collaboration and a presentation of the publication Archives, Sketches, and Connections, with the participation of art historian and curator Bojana Piškur, who will join the Laboratory team.
Bojana Piškur holds a PhD and is a curator at the Moderna galerija / Museum of Contemporary Art in Ljubljana. Her professional interests focus on the relationship between art and politics, with particular attention to the post-Yugoslav space and transnational cultural practices. A central place in her work is occupied by the long-term research and exhibition cycle Southern Constellations: The Poetics of the Non-Aligned, dedicated to the legacy of the Non-Aligned Movement and its contemporary artistic, political, and aesthetic articulations.
Luka Savčić is a research associate at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade, where he is completing his dissertation “The Process of Decolonization and Yugoslav Revolutionary Internationalism (1958–1964)” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dubravka Stojanović. His fields of interest include Yugoslavia in the Cold War, theories of revolution in international relations, revolutionary internationalism, and Yugoslavia’s relationship with the anti-colonial movements of the Third World.
The lecture Yugoslavia and the Formation of the Non-Aligned Movement examines the global context after the Second World War, marked by the division of the world into two opposing blocs. In contrast to this division, countries emerging from colonial rule—together with Yugoslavia as the only European country among them—developed the idea of non-alignment, which culminated in the founding of the Movement in Belgrade in September 1961.
The exhibition Archives, Sketches, and Connections is a project of the Non-Aligned Art Collection Laboratory, conceived and led by Marina Čelebić, Anita Ćulafić, Nada Baković, and Natalija Vujošević.
