The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro announces the opening of an exhibition by Katarina Tomašević Crawford titled “With the Wind in Her Hair”, which will be held on Tuesday, March 31, at 7 p.m., at the House of the King’s Guard. The exhibition is curated by Marina Čelebić.
The exhibition presents a series of wire sculptures—portraits and stylized human figures—in which the artist explores psychological and emotional states as layers within the internal structure of identity. The works are created using a specific “wire sculpting” technique, through a process of intertwining and shaping the material into complex, airy forms that simultaneously preserve mass and actively use negative space.
By combining metal wire with epoxy clay, resin, and paint, Katarina Tomašević Crawford creates sculptures of pronounced texture and strong presence. Her works function as visual records of inner processes, where personal experiences intertwine with symbolic layers of meaning. Special emphasis is placed on motifs of introspection and dreamer figures, while inspiration from the Japanese technique of kintsugi further highlights the beauty of imperfection and the traces of time.
Katarina Tomašević Crawford was born in Titograd and has lived and worked in London for more than 20 years. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje and furthered her studies in France as a visiting student at the Academy in Lille. Throughout her career, she has worked in set and costume design for theater and film, the making of traditional furniture, glass modeling, as well as pedagogical and therapeutic work in the field of visual arts. Her practice is characterized by continuous exploration of different materials and techniques, through which she develops an authentic and recognizable sculptural expression.
