In accordance with regulations governing museum activities and its founding acts, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro performs central museum activities, providing professional support and improving the work of museums in Montenegro in the field of contemporary art.

This year marked the launch of systematic efforts, including the provision of professional assistance, the enhancement of professional work, the collection and analysis of museum statistics, the education of museum staff, and the organization of scientific and professional activities in line with international and national standards. The objective of these efforts is the overall development of museology and the modernization of museum practices in Montenegro.

In the first phase of fieldwork, the Museum’s team, led by Ms. Maša Vlaović, Assistant Director for Museum Affairs, Maja Dedić, Curator for Central Museum Activities, and Milica Martić, Head of the Museum Documentation Department, visited museums in the municipalities of Rožaje, Bijelo Polje, Berane, Kolašin, Danilovgrad, Nikšić, Herceg Novi, Kotor, and Tivat. Visits to museums in Budva, Bar, Ulcinj, Podgorica, and Pljevlja are planned for the next phase.

The collected data will serve as the foundation for creating a database on the contemporary art museum fund at the national level. This will ensure better valuation and accessibility of these collections and improve professional and scientific work.

Additionally, through the research project Montenegro Today, the Museum has gathered documentation on contemporary Montenegrin artists, with the aim of intensifying collaboration, professional presentation, and international promotion of their work. This initiative contributes to the further affirmation of Montenegrin artists through exhibitions both domestically and internationally.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro remains dedicated to advancing museum activities and promoting contemporary art as a key segment of Montenegro’s cultural heritage.
