Last night, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro inaugurated the exhibition “Museum of Broken Relationships.” The display is housed at Petrović’s Castle, and the opening remarks were delivered by the exhibition curator, Anja Marković, and the founder of the Museum of Broken Relationships, Olinka Vištica.

“Many years ago, I first heard about a peculiar Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb. Five years ago, that peculiar museum became my scholarly obsession while writing my master’s thesis on contemporary museums that push boundaries and deviate from well-trodden paths of museology. Three years ago, I gathered the courage to invite them, to ask if we could organize an exhibition. To my delight, they agreed. Last year, we collected items and stories from Montenegro, and when we were on the verge of realizing the exhibition, for a crucial and beautiful reason – the transformation of the Center into the Museum of Contemporary Art – we had to postpone it to this year,” emphasized curator Marković at the opening.

Marković stated that this museum, and this exhibition, were created for the audience to preserve a fragment of their history, to find themselves in others’ stories, and to open and heal wounds.

“Storytelling and sharing are the most important human abilities, those from which we grow. And apparently, even a breakup works wonders and evolves into innovative museums that transcend boundaries and connect the world.”

Olinka Vištica expressed great satisfaction with the opportunity for the Museum to collaborate with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro. “I am truly pleased that our museum has reached Montenegro, considering that the project has traveled almost the entire world. We believe that this collaboration will enable the emotional stories from Montenegro to travel the world.”

The exhibition is open to the public until the end of February.
