Exhibition “Workers’ Club: Between Us” at the Gallery of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro
On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 7 PM, the opening of the exhibition “Workers’ Club: Between Us” will take place at the MSUCG Gallery. This is an authorial project by Adrijana Gvozdenović and Nela Gligorović, curated by Teodora Nikčević.
The Workers’ Club emerges as a gathering space, a venue for alternative education, dialogue, and critical examination of knowledge.
“Overwhelmed by information that has blocked a critical approach to knowledge, we lack tools for organization, action, and change. That’s why we decided to transform the exhibition space given to us into a Workers’ Club—not only for cultural workers but for everyone involved in today’s capitalist production,” emphasize the project’s authors.
Reimagining the Workers’ Club today, within the framework of an art institution, reflects the need to create new infrastructures for action—ones that foster openness, inclusivity, and arise from the real conditions of contemporary work in the art world.
Instead of isolated roles, where the artist is seen solely as the creator of aesthetic objects and the curator as their demystifier, Adrijana and Nela explore the boundaries of their roles while positioning themselves as cultural workers—those who engage with the material and social conditions of knowledge and cultural production.
The Workers’ Club will host a variety of activities, including workshops on the status of independent artists and cultural professionals, a guest lecture by Hana Ćurak, the promotion of the magazine “Between Us: Work in Art” (featuring contributions from Katja Praznik, Vladan Jeremić, and Violeta Kachakova), the presentation of the exhibition catalog, and guided tours of the exhibition.
In addition to the authorial team, collaborators on the project include Maja Vujačić (plant contribution), Ivana Vujošević (magazine design), Nemanja Bečanović (video editing), Marko Vukčević (sound), Jovana Đurčević, Vanja Vukićević Garić, and Danilo Alagić (translation of magazine texts), Ana Vujanović, Fokus Group (Iva Kovač and Elvis Krstulović), Ivana Vaseva and Violeta Kachakova, Jelena Fužinato, Katja Praznik, Valentina Desideri, Vesna Vuković, Vijai Patchineelam, Vladan Jeremić and Rena Rädle, undercurrent (authors of magazine texts), Denis Ćupić (design), and Jovana Vujanović (photography and video).
