On Wednesday, a lecture and workshop by researcher and art historian Jelena Vesić were held at the House of the King’s Guard.

Vesić discussed the politics of (re)producing images of history in contemporary art, addressing issues of amnesia and nostalgia, reactionary historical revisionism, the suppression of emancipatory histories, the entrapment in the technology of the super-present, and the theme of “return to the future.”

Her concept of solidarity in time was presented as a method for thinking and speaking about the past, present, and future beyond the linear understanding of the passage of time and historical development. She spoke about Latin America Week in Belgrade in 1977 and the mural “On the Solidarity of Yugoslav Peoples with the Peoples of Latin America,” created by the Salvador Allende brigades. She also discussed the Tricontinental movement, Third Cinema, the Student Cultural Center – Belgrade, and the situation within the Non-Aligned Movement during the 1970s.

Jelena Vesić is a guest and collaborator at MCAM as part of the Laboratory of the Art Collection of Non-Aligned Countries project.
