Lecture “A Global Universe” by Odile Decq as part of the accompanying program of the exhibition “Beyond the Looking Glass”
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro announces the lecture “A Global Universe”, which will be delivered by one of the most prominent contemporary architects, Odile Decq, on Wednesday, April 9, at 7 PM, in the hall of the Technical Faculties.
This lecture is a special segment of the accompanying program of the exhibition “Beyond the Looking Glass”, which is set to open on Thursday, April 10, at 7 PM, at Petrović Castle. The exhibition is curated by Blanka Marković.
Through the presentation of some of her projects, Odile Decq will illustrate how art, architecture, and design are interconnected while remaining distinct in her work. The lecture will also provide an in-depth insight into what will be showcased at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro.
Odile Decq is a French architect, designer, and artist known for her bold, innovative, and multidisciplinary approach. She founded her architectural studio in 1978 and gained international recognition in 1990 with the completion of Banque Populaire de l’Ouest in Rennes, for which she received ten awards. Her works, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome (MACRO), FRAC Bretagne, the Archaeological Museum in Tangshan, and the Antares Tower in Barcelona, are characterized by dynamic geometries and an experimental approach to materials and form.
Beyond architecture, she is also involved in design, collaborating with brands such as Luceplan and Alessi, while her installations have been featured in prestigious events, including the Venice Architecture Biennale and Design Miami Art Basel.
She has received numerous awards, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale (1996), the Jane Drew Award (2016), and the Architizer A+ Lifetime Achievement Award (2017). Her academic career includes lectures at leading universities worldwide, and in 2014, she founded the Confluence Institute for Innovation and Creative Strategies in Architecture, an innovative architecture school accredited by RIBA. She holds prestigious titles such as Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur and Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, leaving an indelible mark on contemporary architecture and design.
This event will be an exceptional opportunity for architecture, design, and art enthusiasts to hear firsthand the inspiring story of one of the most influential women in architecture and gain deeper insight into her vision of space and creative expression.
The lecture will be held in English, and entry is free for all interested visitors.
The project is supported by OKOV, Feal, the Petrović Njegoš Foundation, and the University of Montenegro.
