As part of the accompanying program for the exhibition Sam Durant: Echoes of the Non-Aligned: Gifts and Returns, a discussion and exhibition tour was held with Slovenian curator and art historian Bojana Piškur.
The discussion covered the conceptual framework of the exhibition, its connection to history, and the ways in which it engages with the audience.
The focus was on the links between history and contemporary art, and how this connection is represented in Sam Durant’s work.
Piškur also spoke about her decades-long research on the legacy of the Non-Aligned Movement and its cultural policies, the changes that followed after 1989, and the current status of the movement.
In the conclusion of the conversation, the curators reflected on the contemporary moment, marked by a growing crisis, and raised questions about whether and how art can help in understanding and considering alternatives.
The discussion was moderated by the exhibition’s curator, Natalija Vujošević.
