The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro (MCAM) proudly announces its program to commemorate Njegoš’s Day – a cultural holiday dedicated to Montenegro’s greatest poet, ruler, and thinker, Petar II Petrović Njegoš.
On this occasion, on November 11 at 7 PM in the central hall of Petrović Castle, we will host a literary evening during which Dr. Sonja Tomović Šundić will present her book *Njegoš in Visual Art*, exploring the lasting influence of Njegoš’s works on visual arts through various artistic interpretations, from portraits to contemporary works.
*Njegoš in Visual Art* is the latest book by Sonja Tomović Šundić, inspired by her research into the impact of Montenegro’s renowned poet Petar II Petrović Njegoš on the visual arts. Dr. Tomović Šundić examines how Njegoš, his ideas, and especially his works *The Ray of the Microcosm*, *The Mountain Wreath*, and *The False Tsar Šćepan the Small*, influenced artists across different eras. In this book, Njegoš is depicted through various forms of artistic representation—portraits, illustrations, sculptures, and other artistic creations. Through his ideas, Njegoš has left a profound impact on our culture, forming the foundation of our distinct identity and recognition.
In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to view an exhibition of works by Miodrag Dado Đurić from the MCAM collection, curated by Biljana Keković.
We congratulate all citizens of Montenegro on this significant holiday and invite you to join us in celebrating Njegoš’s Day, where we will honor one of the most important figures in Montenegrin history through art and literature.
