Montenegro- Pavilion- Biennale

Since the opening of the Biennale, the Montenegrin pavilion has been visited by more than two thousand visitors, including many distinguished guests and art experts. Notably, Hans Ulrich Obrist, one of today’s most influential curators, visited and shared his experience on Instagram, further promoting the Montenegrin pavilion.

The executive producer of this year’s project is the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro, with PhD Vladislav Šćepanović as the pavilion commissioner. Montenegro is represented at this year’s Biennale by the project “It Takes An Island To Feel This Good,” created by artist Darja Bajagić and curator Ana Simona Zelenović. The main sponsor of the participation is the Ministry of Culture and Media.

The exhibition has attracted significant attention from international media. DSCENE Guide included the Montenegrin pavilion among the top ten at this year’s Biennale in its guide “Top 10 Picks from the Venice Biennale 2024 Exhibition.” Additionally, prestigious media outlets Esquire Italia and The Art Daily recognized the quality and innovation of the pavilion. In the article “Changes in Destination” for The Art Daily, Andrea Contin highlighted the Montenegrin pavilion as an essential destination, while Esquire Italia also praised the exhibition in its review.

Curator Ana Simona Zelenović’s contribution was featured in the multi-page article “The New Now,” published in a recent edition of CURA, a curatorial and editorial platform based in Rome. This article includes an essay by the curator that further explains the context and significance of the exhibition.

An interview with Darja Bajagić is also being prepared for the Louisiana Channel, a well-known web and TV channel associated with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, which will be published this summer. This interview will provide deeper insights into the artistic work and creation process of the Montenegrin pavilion’s exhibition.

The Venice Biennale 2024 has just begun, with the exhibition running until the end of November. Given the success of previous years, where the 59th Biennale in 2022 attracted over 800,000 visitors, this year’s attendance is expected to exceed that number. Therefore, we look forward to even more visitors and additional attention that the Montenegrin pavilion will undoubtedly receive.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro continues its mission to promote Montenegrin artists and culture on the global stage, and it is of great importance to us to present this project at one of the world’s most prestigious art events.
