Opening of the Exhibition of Works from the MCAM Collection at the Heritage Museum in Pljevlja
On Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 6 PM, the Heritage Museum in Pljevlja will host the formal opening of the exhibition “Recent Trends from Modern to Contemporary”.
This exhibition features a carefully curated selection of 40 works from the extensive collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro, which comprises over 1,100 pieces.
The works of prominent Montenegrin artists provide a chronological overview of artistic movements in Montenegro during the 20th and 21st centuries, offering a unique opportunity to explore key directions in modern and contemporary art.
The exhibition has been conceptualized by curators Maja Dedić and Nikolina Zuber with the goal of highlighting the diversity of styles, techniques, and individual expressions, while also demonstrating how local artistic practices reflect global trends.
Through the works of pioneers of Montenegrin modern art, such as Marko Borozan, Petar Lubarda, Aleksandar Prijić, and Luka Tomanović, visitors will discover the foundations upon which Montenegro’s artistic scene was built.
The chronological journey continues through periods of innovative approaches in contemporary artistic practices, developed in dialogue with regional and global trends, culminating in the freshest expressions of younger generations of artists.
The exhibition includes works in various media—painting, sculpture, printmaking, and drawing—emphasizing the richness of styles and themes that range from landscapes and figures to abstraction and experimental forms.
“Recent Trends from Modern to Contemporary” offers a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to explore the development of Montenegro’s art scene and its contribution to European and global art movements.
At the same time, it invites dialogue among artists, experts, and audiences, encouraging reflection on the role of art in preserving identity and fostering innovation.
