Printed Edition of "Art Diverzija" Magazine Presented by MCAM

Yesterday, on the eve of the museum’s anniversary, the printed edition of Art Diverzija magazine, published by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro (MCAM), was officially presented to the audience at the MCAM Gallery.

The promotion featured speeches by PhD Vladislav Šćepanović, Director of MCAM; Vuk Vuković, Editor of the magazine; Anja Marković, Assistant Editor; and Denis Ćupić, Designer.

PhD Vladislav Šćepanović emphasized the significance of this publication for Montenegro’s contemporary art scene:

“By publishing Art Diverzija, we symbolically mark two years of the Museum’s existence, officially founded on March 31, 2023. This magazine serves as a review of MCAM’s activities, complemented by theoretical texts and research in the field of contemporary art. Our plan is to publish it twice a year, with a focus on theoretical and analytical texts exploring contemporary artistic tendencies, global influences, and the development of Montenegrin art. Additionally, we plan to organize academic conferences on these topics,” said Šćepanović.

Editor Vuk Vuković highlighted that the first issue provides a comprehensive overview of MCAM’s activities over the past two years:

“This edition presents a summary of projects, lectures, and exhibitions that have positioned MCAM and Montenegro prominently on the regional, European, and even global art scene. It features major exhibitions by Ban Sekulić, Sam Durant, Erró, Kiki Smith, Laibach, Šejla Kamerić, and many others. We are already working on the second issue, which will have a slightly different concept. We have decided to collect theoretical texts through an open call, an important step toward strengthening the theoretical discourse on art in Montenegro. Our goal is to connect curators, artists, and audiences through these texts, creating a space for analytical dialogue on contemporary art,” said Vuković.

Assistant Editor Anja Marković reflected on the importance of having a specialized contemporary art magazine in Montenegro:

“For a long time, we lacked a magazine dedicated to contemporary artistic and theoretical issues. Art Diverzija gives us an opportunity to establish ourselves in the regional context and provides a platform for Montenegrin curators, historians, and art theorists to publish their expert texts. Through past exhibitions, we have already demonstrated MCAM’s capacities, and now we reaffirm them with this publication,” said Marković.

Magazine Designer Denis Ćupić expressed his satisfaction with working on the project, emphasizing his efforts to contribute to Montenegro’s overall design scene:

“Each section has been designed to highlight the story behind a particular event while maintaining visual coherence and readability,” said Ćupić.

Art Diverzija is available in print for €10.00, with a digital edition soon to be accessible on MCAM’s online platforms.
