On Friday, May 17, at 7:00 PM, the promotion of Mijo Mijušković’s monograph will take place at the MCAM Gallery.
Dr. Anastazija Miranović, president of ICOM’s International Council of Museums in Montenegro, Dr. Nikola Marković, and Nikolina Zuber, curators of the exhibition, will speak at the event.
“It is known that artists understand each other best. And Mijo is one of those whose work you cannot fully grasp unless you know Mijo himself. The work and its creator are one. Mijo lives his art. His work is not ‘at home’ in a salon-like atmosphere. Bounded by white gallery walls, confined and imprisoned, it is not at its optimal energetic potential. It needs sunlight, a breeze, a touch of nature, because it was created in and from it, to achieve its primary and true communication with the world that anticipates/perceives it and surrounds it,” Miranović wrote in the text included in the monograph.
In addition to Miranović, the monograph features a text by Boris von Brauchitsch, who highlights that sometimes a minimal intervention, as Mijušković strikingly shows, is enough for even the most abstract objects to become entities, through just a few accents.
“Thus, they often become entities that are immediately appealing, pleasant to have nearby, like good spirits. They are almost never anthropomorphic, as it is not about awakening something human in them, but about respecting them for their uniqueness and idiosyncrasies. If grouped in a garden, gallery, or museum, they immediately start to communicate with each other somehow. They exchange information about visitors and passersby, and when we look at them, it is as if they look back at us. It is certainly wrong to believe that we are merely observers because, in fact, they are the ones who have always been observing us sincerely and deeply.”
We remind you that the promotion of the monograph is part of the accompanying program of Mijo Mijušković’s art exhibition, which is open until May 25 at the MCAM Gallery, realized in collaboration with the “ForA” gallery from Berlin.
The promotion of the monograph is part of the celebration of the global event “Night of Museums.”
