Promotion of the Monograph by Šejla Kamerić “Mother is a Bitch” and Artist Talk at The House of The King’s Guard
On Wednesday, October 23, at 6:00 PM, the promotion of the monograph “Mother is a Bitch” by artist Šejla Kamerić, along with a conversation with the artist about her exhibition “Firstborn,” will take place at The House of The King’s Guard. The discussion with Šejla Kamerić will be led by the exhibition’s curator, Milica Bezmarević.
“Mother is a Bitch” gathers texts and images that reflect Kamerić’s multifaceted practice through two main lines of her work: self-portraits and textile pieces. These artworks are based on Kamerić’s personal experiences, memories, and dreams, guiding us through global spaces of displacement and discrimination. They are viewed through the lens of gender, labor, migration, class, and care, intertwined with layers of past and present.
The texts are presented alongside reproductions of Kamerić’s works, exploring themes such as witchcraft, feminism, self-reflection, self-exploration, and self-exploitation. Contributors to the project include Milica Bezmarević, Hana Ćurak, Iskra Geshoska, Jana Kocevska, Edi Muka, Natalija Paunić, Linda Peitz, Bojana Pejić, Mathilde Sandlarz, Milica Trakilović, Adriana Tranca, and Jasmina Tumbas, with editor Živa Kleindienst.
This edition was published by the prestigious German publishing house Distanz, with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro (MCAM) as one of the partners in the publication.
The conversation with the artist will focus on the process of creating the exhibition, its conceptual framework, and the broader themes of Šejla Kamerić’s artistic practice.
We remind you that the exhibition is open to the public until November 6, 2024.
