Last night, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro held a poetry evening with Montenegrin poet Tanja Bakić at the House of The King’s Guard. Bakić shared her rich creative experiences with the audience, her visits to international literary festivals, and announced her upcoming poetry collections.
Bakić spoke about inspiring moments from various festivals, particularly highlighting her participation in the Malta Festival in 2022. As the sole representative from Montenegro, Bakić captivated the audience with her short poems, which have been translated into many languages.
“Presenting my poetry in Malta, in the format of short poems, was both a challenge and a wonderful experience. The audience demanded conciseness, which brought a new dimension to my art,” Bakić noted. Her work, especially the poem “The Last Virgin,” was pivotal in her invitation to this prestigious festival.
In addition to poetry, Bakić touched on her broader range of interests, including significant pop culture figures from the 1950s to the 1980s. She spoke about icons such as Andy Warhol and Richard Hamilton, rock musician Jimi Hendrix, and the timeless music of The Rolling Stones, whose emergence in the 1960s shaped the music scene and social reality.
“The Rolling Stones are a symbol of a time when England was going through significant changes. Their music helped society to more easily accept the new reality,” Bakić said.
Tanja Bakić began writing poetry at a young age, discovering it as a way to overcome life’s challenges. Her creative journey has passed through various phases, from the influence of local poets to the development of her own, original expression. Her poetic opus is characterized by a deep intertwining of nature and inner subtlety, creating harmony with the entire universe.
“Engaging in poetry allows me to constantly change and explore new expressions,” Bakić said, announcing that she plans to publish a new poetry collection soon.
